Energy trading, conducted under mandate

SCBS operates across the chain that runs from representing a producer to coordinating execution. What follows describes our scope; the terms specific to any given transaction belong to the file, not to a website.

Mandate and representation

Representation is our primary activity. SCBS acts on behalf of international producers and refiners that have granted it a mandate, and presents their capability to qualified buyers on that basis.

That standing carries an obligation: we present only what we are able to trace back to an identified mandate. A buyer dealing with SCBS knows in what capacity we are acting, and on what basis that capacity can be verified during due diligence.

Trading in refined products

Our scope covers the principal refined petroleum products used in industry, power generation and aviation:

  • Gasoil — road, industrial and power generation uses.
  • Fuel oil — industrial fuel and bunkering applications.
  • Kerosene — general and thermal applications.
  • Jet fuel — aviation use.
  • Gasoline — motor fuels.

Transactions follow the incoterms and established practices of international trade, within a contractual framework agreed with the parties. The characteristics of any particular transaction — specifications, volumes, delivery terms, timetable — are handled in the corresponding file and are never published.

Logistics and port coordination

A commercial agreement is only worth its execution. SCBS coordinates the sequences on which that execution depends: alignment between the parties involved, coherence of the shipping timetable, preparation of port calls and monitoring of each checkpoint through to completion.

This coordination is carried out in liaison with operators and the competent administrations, in accordance with the rules applicable to the ports and corridors concerned.

Leading the CB+ grouping

SCBS is the lead company of CB+, a temporary business grouping formed for the conduct of petroleum trading operations. In that capacity it coordinates the members' contributions, centralises correspondence and represents the grouping before counterparties. About CB+.

The composition of the grouping, its governance and its internal terms are confidential and are not published.

How an enquiry is handled

The same order applies to every file, whatever its size. This is not procedure for its own sake: each step determines the next.

  1. Qualification of the parties

Identification of the counterparty, its representatives and the exact nature of its requirement. Anonymous or undocumented enquiries are not taken up.

  2. Compliance checks

KYC and AML verification carried out before any binding exchange. They address the parties themselves as well as the economic rationale of the proposed transaction.

  3. Framing the transaction

Definition of scope with the principal and the counterparty: product, delivery terms, timetable and milestones. This framing is written down and shared.

  4. Documentary coordination

Ordering the documents expected from each side and checking their consistency before any execution step is committed.

  5. Execution follow-up

Support through to completion: logistics and port coordination, checkpoints, and information to the parties at each milestone.
